How to Stop Worrying and Start Living Dale Breckenridge Carnegie was an American writer, lecturer, and developer of famous courses in self-improvement, salesmanship, corporate training, public speaking, and interpersonal skills. Born in 1888 in Maryville, Missouri, Carnegie was a poor farmer’s boy whose first job after college was selling correspondence courses to ranchers. He moved on to selling bacon, soap, and lard for Armour & Company. He was successful to the point of making his sales territory of South Omaha, Nebraska the national leader for the firm.
Dale Carnegie (1888–1955) was an American writer, lecturer, and developer of popular self-improvement courses. He is best known for his books on communication, personal development, and interpersonal skills, with his most famous work being How to Win Friends and Influence People (1936), which remains a landmark in self-help literature.
Carnegie’s teachings focused on the importance of empathy, understanding, and effective communication in both personal and professional life. He emphasized that success in relationships and business was largely based on how people made others feel, rather than simply on technical skills or knowledge. Carnegie’s courses, which included practical methods for improving self-confidence and mastering the art of public speaking, gained widespread popularity and have influenced millions of people worldwide.
Besides How to Win Friends and Influence People, Carnegie also authored other notable books, including How to Stop Worrying and Start Living (1948). His work continues to be widely read and influential, with his principles being applied in business, leadership, and personal development training around the world.
