The Canterville Ghost

99.00 79.20

Author / Oscar Wilde

The Canterville Ghost is set in the English countryside in the late 19th century. Most of the story takes place in Canterville Chase, which is described as an old mansion with secret rooms and passageways, long corridors stained glass windows, and oak panelling. Pictures of long-dead Canterville ancestors, ancient tapestries, and a suit of armour add to the medieval-like setting. Overall, it seems to fit the stereotype of a haunted house.
The book follows fairy tale conventions and Wilde introduces Virginia Otis, a fairy-tale-typepe heroine. Otis must believe that there is a soul worth saving in the murderous and grisly Sir Simon. Her actions, however, lead to a happy ending. Otis marries a Duke and receives a casket of valuable jewels from the Ghost.

Author/ Kamini Gayakwad

The blind vulture was amused by the flattery of the cat and allowed it to come to its nest, what was the result of this? The jackal ran as fast as he could, and not looking where he was going fell into a bucket of indigo dye. He dyed blue, and because of this colour he became the king of the jungle, But what happened after that? The sage turned the mouse into a wolf, then what did the wolf do? An old lion is luring a man with a bracelet. What will man do on this? These stories teach that even a weak person can beat the big ones by using intelligence. And a mighty can be ruined by his stupidity.

It is one of the earlier American novels that focuses on women’s issues without condescension. It is also widely seen as a landmark work of early feminism. The novel’s blend of realistic narrative, incisive social commentary, and psychological complexity makes The Awaken a precursor of American modernist literature.
