Ahmet Ümit

Ahmet Ümit, born in 1960 in Gaziantep, is a celebrated Turkish author best known for his crime fiction. A graduate of Marmara University in Public Administration, he also studied politics in Moscow. He began his literary career with poetry before gaining recognition through short stories and acclaimed crime novels such as Sis ve Gece, considered a modern classic. Over the years, he has authored numerous bestselling works including Patasana, Kukla, Beyoğlu Rhapsody, and Istanbul Memoir, along with experimental and cross-genre books for both adults and children. His popular Chief Inspector Nevzat series has also been adapted into graphic novels in collaboration with various artists. Ümit’s works have been translated into more than twenty languages, establishing him as a prominent voice in contemporary world literature.
