Aytül Akal

Aytül Akal is an acclaimed Turkish author and poet whose passion for writing began in childhood. After graduating from Izmir American College, she started her literary journey in 1974 by writing articles and conducting interviews for various magazines, including Hayat Magazine. In 1981, she published her first poetry collection, marking the beginning of a distinguished literary career.

Her true calling emerged when she entered the world of children’s literature. Following the publication of her first children’s book, The Child Who Doesn’t Like the Night in 1991, Akal dedicated herself to writing for children and young adults. Since then, she has authored numerous stories, poems, fairy tales, novels, and plays, becoming one of the most respected voices in Turkish children’s literature.

In 1995, she founded Uçanbalık Publishing with the vision of creating high-quality books for young readers and later collaborated with Tudem Publishing. From 1997 onward, she contributed children’s and young adult literature reviews and articles to the Cumhuriyet newspaper’s book supplement.
