( 1903 - 1950 )

George Orwell was born on 25 June 1903 in Eastern India. He was the son of a British colonial civil servant. Educated in England, he left Eton and joined the Indian Imperial Police in Burma, then a British colony. He resigned from his job in 1927 and chose writing as his profession. 'Animal Farm' is one of his most widely known books of the 20th century, a fable published in 1945 based on the events of Russia's Bolshevik revolution. The book gave Orwell a stable financial status.
