Storm to Stillness is for anyone feeling overwhelmed by the constant noise of modern life—endless notifications, rising expectations, unanswered questions, and the quiet ache of “Is this all there is?” In a world where the average person checks their phone over 90 times a day, mental noise has become as exhausting as physical labour. Yet peace often feels like something we must chase, escape to, or earn. This book offers a gentler truth. Storm to Stillness doesn’t ask you to abandon your life or reinvent yourself. Instead, it walks beside you—through ordinary moments and honest reflections—showing how calm can exist right where you are. Blending personal stories with science-backed insights, Shweta Padda explores how to slow down without falling behind, how to stay present without disconnecting, and how to find steadiness even when life remains loud. Did you know that just one minute of conscious breathing can help reset your nervous system? Through small daily practices, simple rituals, and compassionate guidance, this book reminds you that stillness isn’t a destination—it’s a choice you can return to again and again.

More relevant than I expected

I picked this up thinking it would be another book about slowing down, but it ended up making me think about how noisy my everyday life has actually become. The phone, constant notifications, always having something to do, and even the thoughts that don't switch off when everything around you is quiet. What I liked is that the book doesn't tell you to leave everything behind. It asks a much more practical question: can you find some calm while still living your normal life? That stayed with me.

You don't have to quit your life to find some peace

This one will probably resonate with anyone whose day is basically meetings, messages, notifications, work and then more scrolling before bed. What I found refreshing is that the book doesn't romanticise escaping from all of it. The idea is to learn how to slow down without necessarily falling behind. That feels much more relevant to real life than the usual advice to simply “disconnect.”
